A Roundtrip across the wonderful landscape of eastern Madagascar with an adventurous journey by train to the east coast and a boat trip on the Pangalanes channel.
TOUR
1st day: journey to Paris
Individual journey to Paris. On request, it’s possible to start the journey from several airports in Germany to Paris. Please ask for it. In the evening flight to Antananarivo (Tana), the capital city of Madagascar.
2nd day: Arrival at Antananarivo
Arrival at Antananarivo (Tana), Ivato Airport. Check-out and transfer to the Hotel. In the afternoon town inspection and visit of the zoological and botanical garden Tsimbazaza. We get there a first impression of the variety of Madagascar's animal and plant world. Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, bed and breakfast
3th day: Antsirabe
After breakfast drive to Antsirabe. In Ambatolampy we climb up the mountain of the magician. Then we continue to Antsirabe, a former spa resort. The landscape is characterised by terraced rice fields. Thanks to its healthy air and the thermal spring this place is also named "Vichy of Madagascar". This region is very famous for its semi-precious stones. Diamant or equivalent, BB
4th day: Ranomafana
We continue to the village Ranomafana. We make a stopover to the Zafimaniry (Wood Carver) at Ambositra. Ambositra is situated in an altitude of 1500m. Domaine Nature or equivalent on BB
5th day: Nationalpark Ranomafana
Today at a great round walk we let ourselves be initiated into the secrets of the national park of Ranomafana by a native leader. The golden bamboo lemur and the smallest frog of the world live here. We'll visit also the thermal springs. Domaine Nature or equivalent BB
6th day: Mananjary
In the early morning we continue by car through the rainforest of the middle east cost to Mananjary. We will discover a nearly unspoiled region of nature. Sorafa or equivalent BB
7th day: Canal de Pangalanes Mananjary
After breakfast we start to a cosy ride by motorboat on the Canal de Pangalanes. This channel is the only connection to the villages at the hinterland. Slim pirogue (dug-outs) gracefully glide past to us, fully loaded with persons, bananas or other products from the region. Our destination: the village Ambohitsara. We stay overnight Auberge de Ambohitsara. Our accommodation has no electricity like the cottages of the villager. FB
8th day: Ambohitsara
Opportunity of getting to know a madagascan village, visit of the school, the hospital and the church. Some villagers grant a look into their huts. A walk to the old Ambohitsara is also recommendable. A stone elephant which the ancestors shall have brought along from Yemen stands there. Optional excursions in the dug-out or to a near situated lake are possible. Auberge de Amohitsara, full board
9th day: Boating - Return
The boat brings us back to Mananjary, where we'll be picked up. Then we continue by car along the east coast to Manakara. Sidi or equivalent, BB.
10th day: Train journey to Fianarantsoa
Today we continue by train back to the high land Fianarantsoa (should the train be cancelled, we go by car). Enjoy the eventful journey through the green rainforest of Madagascar, with panoramic view of a wonderful vegetation. At the various stopping points fruits and drinks are offered by the natives. 11th day: Antaimoro paper
After breakfast we drive via the Betsileo-vineyards (also named the granary of Madagascar) to Ambalavao, where we will observe the traditional making of the famous Antaimoro-Paper. Then we continue to the Andringitra mountains. Overnight in camp, full board.
12th day: Holy Andringitra-mountains
This area is partly opened for tourists since a short time. It involves a lot of secrets. Many plants and animals that exist only in Madagascar are living here. The area is a place of silence too. The visitors have to respect the Fadys (prohibitions) in this reserve because the Fadys are holy and very important to the tribe of Betsileo and Bara. Camp, full board
13th day: Fianarantsoa
We drive back to Madagascar’s modern civilisation. We enjoy the comfort of the Hotel Soafia or equivalent with its bed and breakfast and the possibility to refresh our selves. BB
14th day: Fianarantsoa - Tana
Early in the morning we drive back to Tana. A long journey, but the road is in good state. Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, BB.
15th day: Marozevo - Andasibe
Today we drive in the direction of the East coast through the rain forest to Andasibe.In Marozevo we visit the Peyreiras private reptiles farm. Besides different reptile species, with a little happiness also we'll see the greatest butterflies here (wing span width approx. 30 metre). Feon’ny Ala or equivalent, BB.
16th day: Analamazaotra Reserve
This morning visit to Andasibe National Park. Species of animals as rare as Lemurs and Makis live here in the Analamazaotra national park (approx. 810 hectares), in the midst of tropical vegetation. The Indri, the greatest Lemur, is very remarkable. An unforgettable experience for all nature-lovers. In the afternoon rejourney to Tana. Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, BB.
17th day: Tana - Flight back to Paris
Today morning visit to the artisan market "Marche d’Artisanat". In the afternoon transfer to the airport Ivato, where we check in for the return flight to Paris.
18th day: Arrival in Paris
Arrival in Paris. Then individual journey to the respective place of residence.
You are always welcome to ask us about the kind of travel experience you are looking for; we (almost) always come up with a solution. Alternatively, you can arrange an appointment with us for an individual consultation, and we will make a customised offer.
Hotel arrangements may be subject to alteration. Departure times of flights can be postponed by as much as several days, as airlines can change their operating days in the course of the year. All remaining trips are then reorganised in accordance with customers’ wishes.
Suitable vehicles are arranged in accordance with the number of travellers (1-8) to ensure the best value. English- or German-speaking guides are available, as is the option to travel without a guide. These trips can also be reorganised on an individual basis depending on areas of interest.
Whether as part of an organised programme or as an extra, we can also offer a few refreshing and therapeutic days for a chance to bathe, as required. Tours on the themes of mineral wealth, ornithology and botany are available by arrangement, but require planning and booking well in advance due to time restraints and the availability of skilled personnel.
