Madagaskar Land und Leute
Trip through the highlands with visit to the volcanic landscape Ampefy, the famous Lily waterfall Lily as well as Antsirabe, very famous for its precious stones. Visit to the national park Andasibe, the homeland of the Indris (the biggest Lemur).

TOUR

1st day: journey to Paris

Individual journey to Paris. It’s possible to start the journey from several airports in Germany to Paris. Please ask for it. In the evening flight to Antananarivo (Tana), the capital city of Madagascar.

2nd day: Arrival at Antananarivo - Tsimbazaza

Arrival at Ivato Airport (Tana). Check-out and transfer to the Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, bed and breakfast. Welcome and further information about the journey. In the afternoon visit to the Zoological-Botanical Garden Tsimbazaza. Here we find a good number of animals and plants that are typical of Madagascar. Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

3rd day: Antananarivo

Today we begin with a sightseeing tour: a visit to the markets of Tana and to the buildings of the colonial period. In the afternoon we visit the Abohimanga hill kingdom and Antsahadinta. Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

4th day: Ampefy

After breakfast we travel to Ampefy, a wonderful landscape of volcanic origin. We walk around the lakes and the village, always in direct contact with the people. Hotel Kavitaha or equivalent, bed and breakfast

5th day: Lily Waterfalls, Geyser

After breakfast we take a long walk to the Lily Waterfalls with a very old electricity generating station. A small picnic will be served, then there’s a ride to the geysers, if the weather is fine. Hotel Kavitaha or equivalent, bed and breakfast, lunch.

6th day: Tana - Ambohimanga

Back to Tana, where we go to one of the local markets. Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

7th day: Tamatave

We travel to Tamatave on the East Cost, the most important port of Madagascar. We cross the highlands rainforest with unique views into the mysterious world of Madagascar. Hotel Noor or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

8th day: Tamatave - Ambila Lemaitso

Citytour by “pousse-pousse" to visit the old houses and buildings of the town. This is how natives can earn some money. There’s a visit to a very small marine museum. Then there’s a 3-hour drive to Ambila Lemaitso, situated on the “Canal des Pangalanes". Hotel Malaky or equivalent, bed and breakfast

9th day: Ambila Lemaitso

A day of leisure in Ambila Lemaitso, situated on the Canal Pangalanes. There’s a chance to swim in safe areas. Also on offer is a boat-ride on the Canal (optional), some rare plants and animals can be seen on this trip. Hotel Malaky or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

10th day: Andasibe: Perinet-Reserve

Trip to Andasibe to see the Perinet Nature Reserve. The biggest Lemur (the Indri) lives here. A native guide helps us to observe lots of rare plants and animals. Staying overnight in the bungalows of Feon’ny Ala or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

11th day: Perinet-Reserve

We spend the whole day in the famous Analamazaotra Nature Reserve to search for the Indri. We also try to take pictures of more rare animals and plants, which are only found in this part of the world. Our guide will help us. Staying overnight in the bungalows of Feon’ny Ala or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

12th day: Marozevo - Ambatolampy

Trip to Marozevo, to the private farm of Peyreiras. With a little luck you can see there the huge comet moth (world’s largest butterfly). Continuation of the journey to Ambatolampy. Overnight in Rendezvous de Pecheurs or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

13th day: Mountain of the Shamans - Antsirabe

Today we walk over the mountain and have a picnic. Then we visit the village of the wizard, if allowed. In the afternoon we ride over the highlands to Antsirabe. Hotel Diamant or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

14th day: Antsirabe - Ambositra - Antsirabe

We ride to Ambositra, the town of the woodcutters tovisit some of the manual workers, a blacksmith and if possible a family in their home. Back to Antsirabe and a visit to the volcanic lake of Tritriva and later on to a stone-cutter’s house. Hotel Diamant or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

15th day: Antananarivo

After breakfast we start back to Tana. On the way we stop for photo opportunities such as markets, farmers on their paddy-fields and more photogenic subjects. In the afternoon we stroll around Tana’s market where handicrafts, flowers, dresses, clothes and spices are offered. You may buy your souvenirs. Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

16th day: Tana - Flight back to Paris

For our last morning on Madagascar we visit the famous market “Marche de Artisanat" for souvenirs. In the afternoon we transfer to Ivato, check-in and back to Paris.

17th day: Arrival at Paris

Arrival at CDG Airport Paris and individual journeys back home.

Information:

Hotel arrangements may be subject to alteration. Departure times of flights can be postponed by as much as several days, as airlines can change their operating days in the course of the year. All remaining trips are then reorganised in accordance with customers’ wishes.

Suitable vehicles are arranged in accordance with the number of travellers (1-8) to ensure the best value. English- or German-speaking guides are available, as is the option to travel without a guide. These trips can also be reorganised on an individual basis depending on areas of interest.

Whether as part of an organised programme or as an extra, we can also offer a few refreshing and therapeutic days for a chance to bathe, as required. Tours on the themes of mineral wealth, ornithology and botany are available by arrangement, but require planning and booking well in advance due to time restraints and the availability of skilled personnel.
