A two weeks round trip into the south up to Tuléar combined with trekking trip in the hilly Andringitra and Isalo national park.
TOUR
1st day: journey to Paris
Individual journey from your residence to Paris. In the connection flight to Madagascar.
2nd day: Arrival at Antananarivo
Arrival at Antananarivo (Tana), Ivato Airport. Check-out and transfer to the Hotel Bellevue or equivalent, bed and breakfast.
3rd day: Antananarivo - Tsimbazaza
We inspect old colonial buildings and the sights of the capital city in the morning. Visit of the zoological botanical garden Tsimbazaza in the afternoon. We catch a first view into Madagascars Flora and Fauna. Hotel Bellevue, bed and breakfast.
4th day: Ambatolampy
Drive through the highlands with its characteristic rice terraces to Ambatolampy at the Tsavajavona mountain. The Tsavajavona is the third highest mountain of Madagascar. We climb up the mountain of the magician an visit the village of the shamans. Hotel Centre de Pecheurs, bed and breakfast.
5th day: Antsirabe - Ambositra
Ride via Antsirabe to Ambostra, town of the woodcutters. Antsirabe is a elegant resort, well-known for its pleasant climate an its thermal springs. Visit to a volcanic lake and a precious stone cutter. Visit to a family of the Zafimaniry with their workshops beside the tourist roads. Hotel Violett, bed and breakfast.
6th day: National park Ranomafana
Drive to Ranomafana National park. The golden Lemur and the smallest frog on earth are living here. One of the many highlights of the special tour. Staying overnight in bungalows, breakfast.
7th day: National park Ranomafana - Ambalavao
We go on for some walks to see lots of animals and plants in their surroundings. We let ourselves be initiated into the secrets of the park by a native leader. Then journey to Ambalavao, where the world-famous Antaimoro-paper will shown. Staying overnight in bungalows or camps, breakfast.
8th day: Sendrisoa - Antanifotsy
A short drive to Sendrisoa (ca. 1000 metre) over runways in bad conditions. Here we start a four hour walk to Antanifotsy (1400 metre). We astonished at the sacred mountain massif of Andringitra, rice terraces laid out artistically and some sleepy villages by the way. The Andringitra mountain is strictly protected and to the most part unexplored biotope with religious meaning. With a well-informed leader and porters for the baggage we walk to the starting place of our tour. We open our camp at the river Zomandao. Bed and full board.
9th day: Andringitra-Gebirge
Today’s walk first along the park and then direction south-west,, climbing the “peak of the White Man" (2080 metre) to Andranofady, which takes about 7 hours for experienced walkers. The hilly country is interrupted by deep canyons and giant rocks. Due to the different levels of high we will pass through different zones of vegetation. There are palm trees, Euphorbias, orchids as well as lizards, snakes and much more. Only since 1998 part of the holy Andringitra has been opened for tourism. Camp, full board.
10th day: Ranohira
After breakfast a short and cosy walk (2 hours) to Vohitsaoka, wher our car is waiting for us. We start to the Isalo-Mountains to Ranohira. After passing rocks, “Gate of the South" we arrive the more and more sparse lancscape, named Grand Sud. This is our starting-point for the excursion through the Insalo national park. Hotel Joyau del Isalo, bed and breakfast.
11th day: Isalo-National park
We start our excursion (National park 500 - 1300 metre) with an three hour walk to the “Canyon des Rats" in the early morning. Sandstone cliffs eroded strongly show us where many rivers have cut deep canyons into the landscape within millions of years. We climb over little rocks to the Canyon of singers (Monkey Canyon). We pitch our tents next to the Tapia-wood. Walk along a river on search for lemurs and reptiles living here. Camp, full board.
12th day: Isalo-National park
A steep way uphill will take us to the plateau. We arrive the Piscine Naturelle after five to six hours. An unforgettable and beautiful place with clear water we will find. During the walk we pass sulphur yellow und grew moon landscape. We will see Euphorbien, aloes, dwarf palms, Pachypodien, animals as lizards, chameleons, lumurs and (not poisonous) snakes living in this area. Due to the erosion the Isalo-mountain is a fantastic and bizarre formed region. Camp, full board.
13th day: Isalo-National park
Cosy breakfast, then an easy walk to our car and ride to the west coast. We pass a landscape which gets more and more dry up to half-desert. Palm trees and baobabs along the way. Here the occasion is given to visit some fantastic tombs of Mahafaly. Hotel Paletuvier or equivalent, bed and breakfast.
14th day: Tulear
Visit of the Arboretum (Botanical garden) tto get an idea of the flora (succulents) of Madagascar’s south. Sight seeing nd visit to the ethnological museum of Tulear in the afternoon. Hotel Paletuvier or equivalent, bed and breakfast.
15th day: Rest day
In case of the permanent changing flying times we have a break. Transfer and flight to Tana are flexible. At the airport Ivato we will picked up to our hotel Bellevue, bed and breakfast.
16th day: Tana - Flight back to Paris
Today is at your own disposal. It is possible to visit the artisan market "Marche d’Artisanat". In the afternoon transfer to the airport Ivato, where we check in for the return flight to Paris.
17th day: Arrival in Paris
Arrival in Paris in the morning. Then individual journey home to the respective place of residence.
You are always welcome to ask us about the kind of travel experience you are looking for; we (almost) always come up with a solution. Alternatively, you can arrange an appointment with us for an individual consultation, and we will make a customised offer.
Hotel arrangements may be subject to alteration. Departure times of flights can be postponed by as much as several days, as airlines can change their operating days in the course of the year. All remaining trips are then reorganised in accordance with customers’ wishes.
Suitable vehicles are arranged in accordance with the number of travellers (1-8) to ensure the best value. English- or German-speaking guides are available, as is the option to travel without a guide. These trips can also be reorganised on an individual basis depending on areas of interest.
Whether as part of an organised programme or as an extra, we can also offer a few refreshing and therapeutic days for a chance to bathe, as required. Tours on the themes of mineral wealth, ornithology and botany are available by arrangement, but require planning and booking well in advance due to time restraints and the availability of skilled personnel.
When booking, please bear in mind the peak-season periods of 18. Dec. – 31. Dec. and 01. Jul. – 20. Aug.
